Brain Drain In IITs

IIT (Indian Institute Of Technology) is like the mecca of students of India. As soon as we reach the high school everyone of us is expected to crack IIT-JEE and study there . The IIT's are one of the finest universities in the world having 16 branches all over India. The value of IIT's could be just recognized by the fact that the Parliament of India has declared them as the Institutes of National Importance. All of the best minds of India study in these institutes which are government funded so that the young minds of country don't have to bother about fees. The fees of IITs is about 25000-35000Rs per year which is negligible compared to the resources provided to the students.

Now, the question comes why ? because Indian government thinks that after the students will complete their study, they will repay that amount to the nation by helping in its development. But the statistics say something else. Until 1990, when India was not liberalized, everything was chaos. The situation improved slightly after liberalization but its still a lot of brain drain occurs. The government noticed that a lot of its greatest minds were migrating to developed countries like USA, UK , Australia etc. But the govt. thought OK, its not that bad, they are going to learn further technologies and new concepts which are not available in India.

And we were all happy, yeah our engineers and graduates will learn new advanced stuff and then come back and implement those to help India become developed. But, alas we were wrong. Those graduates found those nations so great that they decided to never come back. They just used our resources and then are now helping those countries. Why? just for few comforts and better life. What about India??? Who cares man!

"Its my life and i have full rights to live it in my way", that's great man but have you ever heard about ethics. Don't you have any responsibilities toward your nation? Just today I was surfing some of finest universities in US like Stanford, MIT, Princeton etc. and i found that major portion of the faculty and students of them were the toppers of IIT's. We say that those institutions are good, the main reason behind that is that faculty and students who migrated from India. Just Imagine for a second the current scenario of India. If all of those had decided to not to remain there forever and come back and be a part of India!!!

So what should be done, well its the time govt. should wake up and take some tough decisions.

  • First of all we should try to bring our champions back and that is not easy. Those living there are having an awesome lifestyle with all the modern facilities. The time has come when India should improve the lifestyle of its people.
  • Second, we should give more incentives and money to them. They are worth that.
  • Third, I think should be that there should be law that a person from IIT cannot apply for PR in any country till he has worked at least 5 years for India. This is for the subsidies provided to them by Indian govt.
  • Fourth, the parents and family members should never encourage their children about foreign countries. From childhood they should be motivated to work for India.
  • Then, in the last i think govt. should encourage some programs and events to lure them back like some events on Brain Drain, patriotic events etc.
I personally think that if it is done then, India can achieve the status of developed rather than developing very soon.
